FAQ's

I've never had a massage before, what should I expect?
Many people are nervous the first time they get a massage. Make sure to arrive to your appointment 10-15 minutes early to fill out paperwork. After you have filled out the paperwork, your massage therapist will bring you into the massage room and discuss your session goals. Your massage therapist will give you instructions on how to get ready for your particular session. Then it is simply your job to relax and let the healing begin! It is usually a good idea to wear comfortable clothes to the massage so you are relaxed before and after your session. After your session is over, make sure to take your time getting up and stay hydrated.

Do I have to be completely naked to receive a massage?
Some people choose to go under the sheets without a stitch of clothing on, some people leave their underwear on, some people prefer to wear a swimsuit, sweats, or even street clothes. Never take off more clothes than you are comfortable taking off. Talk with your therapist and he or she will adjust the session to meet your needs. Be aware that some techniques can be more effective with less clothes, but there's no reason you cannot enjoy your massage fully clothed.

Is it true that my massage has to hurt to be productive?
While many of us have heard the theory "no pain, no gain," this is not always true. Massage does not have to hurt to be productive. With some techniques, some discomfort can be expected, such as deep tissue or trigger point work. If you are wincing away from the pain, or it reaches above a 6 or 7 on a pain scale, the pressure may be too much and could possibly cause damage. If the pressure is too much, inform your massage therapist immediately and they can adjust the technique to meet your needs.

What can I do to keep the results of the massage for longer?
The best things you can do to help keep the results of your massage for longer are keep hydrated, self care, and try to reduce stress. Please ask your massage therapist for self care recommendations.

Can I bring my children to my massage session?
To help you get the most relaxation and rejuvenation out of your massage session, we do not recommend bringing children to your massage appointment. Please keep in mind that there is usually more than one massage session happening at our location at the same time. So be considerate to others.

Do I have to be a certain age to receive a massage?
We encourage people from 1 to 100 to receive massage! But if you are under 18 years of age, a parent must be present and sign a consent before you can receive your massage.

Should I tip my massage therapist?
Tips are never required or expected. If you believe you have received an excellent massage, a tip is appreciated. Please keep in mind, massage therapists that do not work for themselves often do not receive the full price of the massage. Bottom line, if you feel like tipping, please tip. If you do not feel it's appropriate, don't.

What if I feel ticklish during my massage?
Some people feel uncomfortable with certain techniques and may want to giggle. If this happens, your massage therapist may want to apply firmer pressure or change the technique to make you more comfortable. In the event that an area is too ticklish to be worked on, please inform your massage therapist and he or she can skip that area completely. Informing your massage therapist ahead of time about sensitive areas can make your session more comfortable.

From a male client: What if I get an erection during my massage session?
It rarely happens, but if it does don't panic. Sometimes this happens as a reaction of the nervous system going into relaxation mode (sometimes because of certain medications). Massage therapists know that this is a physiological reaction and will treat the situation accordingly. Usually your massage therapist will direct their attention to another area of your body, change the techniques or change the pressure. Your unintended erection, and any embarrassment will soon pass.
